Religious Education

.In Religious Education we read two texts about the toys and games from last century, and then we made a text relating it with today days. The conclusion was that with the urbanization, children can't play as much as they did before.

Portuguese

In Portuguese we read the book "Os Meninos da Rua Paulo", that relates with the MUSP Project, because in the end, the ground, where the boys played, turns into a building, exactly like in Brazil, when the kids stopped playing with their soapbox cars because of the urbanization.
We also worked with the portfolio and learned how to organize it.

Art

In Art, we worked with Mathematics. In Mathematics we built the soapbox car and in Art we painted it. Each group studied about a topic and then we made a presentation to the classroom. The topics were Cultural Heritage, Tipping, Museum, Collection, Curator, an Art Gallery and Monuments of São Paulo.

Geography

In Geography, we did many things. We watched the movie "Modern Times", listened to the music "Três Apitos", by Noel Rosa and made a PIVOT  animation. We also made thematic maps representing socio-economic indicators of the city of Sao Paulo, like the average percentage of years of study, the rate of the black populationand family revenue of each district. And finally, we read the book "Menino de Engenho".

Science

In Science, we are learning about sustainability and the types of woods. To build furniture the woods used are yellow-ipe, cedrela, cedar, pink mahogany and garapeira.
To build the soapbox car it wouldn't be ecologically using these types of woods so we are going to use the plywood, that is remains of other wood and mainly sawdust that are glued ans pressed on each other. The only problem is that the plywood isn't resistent to water.

History

In the MUSP project in history we are doing an álbum about old memories of the city of São Paulo. We are using the book "Imigrantes nas cidades do Brasil no século XX"  to see photos, texts and  opinions of some people in that time and we are also using memories about the past of our family, for exemple if they were foreign,  when an why  they came to Brazil, how was the city in that time...

Mathematics

On the math part of the MUSP project, we will build a soapbox car. For this we had many steps until the cart is ready. First we created a logo and a name for our team, in our case is ROLI FLAME. Then we had to make the average size and weight in the group for the cart can be used by everyone without being too big or too small for any member. To do this we add all the  heights and divide by the number of people in the group, and for weight is the same thing. We also did a sketch of the cart to get an idea of how it looks before it's done. Finally we are going to the woodwork to build the cart, paying attention and taking care, because any mistake can be fatal!

SoapBox Car and Billy Cart

A SoapBox Car is a motorless vehicle.  In Australlia it´s called Billy Cart.
Usually the children build the carts and they also organize competitions and races with them. The soapbox cars are propelled by gravity and can reach almost 30 miles per hour.
When the cart get into a competition it must follow some rules, like:
  • It mustn't have motor
  • It must have 4 wheels
  • It must have a brake
  • The children must wear a helmet
  • If the children wants it can have a push at the top for extra speed
